Located at 18km in the north of Varna and at 2km from the site of the Gold Sands, its name is resulting from the Turkish word “aladja” which means “multicoloured”.
This rupestral monastery is in particular known for its frescos and its paintings with the colors very sharp and barriolees. It would date from the 12th century and contains a multitude of monastic cells dug in the rock and the unit includes a temple, a crypt and a church.
The stages of the monastery are connected by staircases as well as paths.
